Divorce

What values should be distributed and how should they be distributed? For marriages entered into in Thailand, there are Thai laws governing the marriage and the divorce, including how the property relationship between the spouses is during the marriage and how the financial division is to be carried out in the event of a divorce. This is regulated in the Marriage Act. There are many who have questions related to divorce and finances.

We describe some of the key rules here. At the time of marriage, a joint ownership is created between the spouses. Joint ownership means that the spouses’ total assets must in principle be divided equally after deduction of debt when the spouses separate. The main rule in the Marriage Act is equal sharing.
